Your Positive Behavioral Image may be evaluated in this fourth letter V of our acronym DRIVEN. You must evaluate and determine your own worth at the same time others are evaluating your value or worth to them. This is a particularly difficult task to look into that mirror each morning and step back from our own self-conceived notions of who we are and determine who values us as an individual, friend, family member, social group member, and workforce member. It is interesting in all of our efforts to develop our Positive or Negative Image that we must look to ourselves first. We must know who we want to be and practice behaviors that will provide us the final goals of achieving our desires. Then, others will or should come to the same conclusion as to who we are and what value we have in their lives. So in a way we must be selfish in the beginning in order to provide benefit and value to others in the end.
Do you regard yourself highly? Do you have high self esteem? Do you appreciate yourself as a person, friend, family member, social group member, and workforce member? If you do, then you probably are regarded highly by others that you touch in your daily life. See how what you think and believe and achieve in your effort to improve your Image is a critical factor in how others will perceive you. The one thing you must always guard against though is sending mixed signals. What do I mean? We all have read and heard that a picture is worth a thousand words and that in every picture there is a story. What you say and do may present a positive image, but, our appearance and actions may send mixed signals to others and give them the impression that we are something we truly are not. I like to say that people read people whether they realize it or not and they evaluate others based upon their own self perception, behavior, knowledge, and experiences. So, be careful that you send messages in all forms of communications that are consistent with your desired outcome.
This is how others will rate you according to their relative estimate of worth or desirability. They will evaluate you and somehow assign a value to you as it pertains to them.
Some say that it doesnŐt matter to them how others see them or evaluate them. I say that this is what matters most. Why? Because when you evaluate yourself and follow the acronym of IMAGE DRIVEN, you are elevating your self-image daily. This daily behavior will develop into a permanent consistent image portrayed and witnessed by others in your life and it will follow that you will elevate your public image.
What does this mean to you? It means that others will see you having more value. You will receive more credit for your contributions to your family, friends, groups, and employment. That means you live a better life with your family, friends, groups, employers and thus should receive more rewards in all aspects of your life.
Next Chapter we discuss the Fifth Letter E for Excellence.
