Cautious Optimism On Display At Mid-America
Although most attendees at the 2008 Mid America Trucking Show agreed that business was down for the moment, the general consensus was that business would pick up later this year, to be followed by a strong year in 2009. As usual, there was no shortage of new and improved products making their debut at the show.

Opposition To Mexican Truck Pilot Program May Be Misrepresented
Early last year, the FMCSA announced a project to demonstrate the ability of Mexico-based motor carriers to operate safely in the United States beyond the commercial zones along the U.S.-Mexico border. Unrecognized by those opposing the cross-border program, there are already a significant number of Mexican carriers operating in the U.S. under a long-standing exemption. Of the exempted companies, 859 were active from 2003 to 2006, and their drivers and trucks were subject to U.S. inspections for violations that would put them out of service until corrected.
